"Do you want a present?"

22:28 Dec 17 2017
Times Read: 365

As I begin this it’s 1:57 again. Summetime ended awhile back and Greenwich meantime took over. The wind has gotten quite hard and, my minds active, although that means I’m wide awake and will be for hours.

Tonight I saw the first new horror movie I’ve seen inna while that I actually rated. The actors weren’t too young; they could act and, what was just as good, it had a story that was original; well, fairly original. It had borrowed a plot device from ‘Groundhog Day’ of all films.

I went through to the kitchen to make my coffee for the morning and had turned on the radio, to Radio 5 shortly before it had become one o’clock for the second time.

The presenter had been giving news that many in England should now of, yet don’t.
In 1957 Martin Luthor King went to a uni in the north east to accep an honorary award. It’d been the only time he went to somewhere other than London, when visiting England and, it’d been only a short while before he was assassinated in ‘58

I’d been born in 1959 and, what I’d heard was news to me, literally; furthermore, it was of historical import, to me.

Then, the other day... Mike had called round in the evening, ostensibly to watch a film with me. Now I'd spent a lot of time the day previous, making a dvd for him, of the days out he had shared with Barry and I for someone who needed it.

“How are you?” he'd asked, meaning it.

I'd answered honestly, then he'd said to me with a kinda smile, “So ask me how I am?” So I had. And in his answer he'd explained that he was late 'coz he'd dropped his Mum off at a relatives, 'coz his cousin hand hung himself.

Hearing that my jaw had dropped. And, the adage is right. No matter how bad you feel, you can virtually guarantee that someone feels worse.

Well in my room we'd chatted about many things, but that night it had been Barry and, the disc allowed us both to revel in some good times, as we had watched the three of us, being... us. Mike had seemed to enjoy the disc as much as I had and we'd chatted about Barry honestly, yet with smiles and warmth.

All-in-all, it'd been quite cathartic.

I had a fall, out of bed. And yes, earlier there had been whiskey involved. And, I'm thankful in hindsight, that I hadn't done more damage than I had, both to me and the room. As it was, I suffered severe spinal displacement, for a second time November and, I'd thought I'd broken my left hand little toe. As it happens, it;s 'only' very badly bruised and left me with a distinct limp, when I was ab;e to stand and, walk again.

And...

You wait ages for a good vengeance movie to come along, then you get two, both a similar motive, to drive the main character. And, although they shared that similarity, 'The Foreigner' with Jackie Chan and 'Acts Of Vengeance' starring Antonio Banderas were both very different films, that I'd enjoyed equally.

Then Monday night last, early hours, I fell in my room. And yes, due to a rotten birthday I’d drunk too much, but that’s neither here nor there… I hurt me, goodstyle and, I’d knocked my furniture and ‘bits’ aside as I had done so…

I’d then spent much of Tuesday feeling poorly ick and feeling sorry for myself, having realised by Wednesday what I’d done to myself. Luckily the little toe on the left was not broken, as it moved and was severely bruised. But, I’d slipped a disc.

Well, by Friday, when I went to see about my antibiotics for my face I’d been feeling a ;ot better, although the right side of the lower back did still feel tender.

Yet, I did have my diversions – making DVD’s of both ‘Future Man’ and a show I’d been waiting to see, ‘The Punisher.’

Then after I had risen late on Sunday due to a bad night, we’d got a phonecall from Ian’s new son Brian, [same name as my Dad] – My brother was in hospital, with gangrene, due to an ulcer on his leg and, his diabetes and due for amputation.

Then come the end of Sunday night as dad slept, I found myself waiting on the phone, to see how Ian might be.
And wait I had… finally I could take the suspense no longer, needing to know whether Ian was alive or dead, nevermind the talk of amputation and gangrene and diabetes.

The next day, after housework and shopping, I’d sent an email – the heading being ‘Dad asks’, as I’d figured that would garner a response from Ian. It had.

He had responded, either from home, or hospital, with a simple answer -
“They removed two toes.”

Then the next day, I’d needed to travel, to get away for just a few hours and see a friendly face, at the very least: so after seeing to Dad’s tea and making a new dvd of marvels new show ‘the punisher’ and ‘the extinct’, a show I’d promised Karl for many months.

It’d been a real pleasure, to see him and, present him with my discs. Then as I’d sat down on entrance and poured myself a scotch, he had asked of me, “Do you want a birthday present?”

Needless to say, I had nodded my head…

He’d gone away and returned with a tardis projector clock, with flashing light and dematerialization sound. I must have thanked him for it at least ten times at least…

Then as the time had neared for a lift home, he’d told me that Laurie would be driving us… who I’d recently given coin to, for driving lessons – as a ‘moving in’ gift.

Thankfully for an initially apprehensive me – she was already pretty damn good at driving and, she already knows her weaknesses – and, that’s a strength.
